Description
Nerdy college student Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) has survived the plague that has turned mankind into flesh-devouring zombies because he’s scared of just about everything. Gun-toting, Twinkie-loving Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) has no fears. Together, they are about to stare down their most horrifying challenge yet: each other’s company. Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin co-star in this double-hitting, head-smashing comedy.

There is a percentage of the population that is fascinated by moving images on rectangular surfaces. This population which spends an inordinate amount of it’s lifespan in front of monitors and screens seems to have been frozen in a zombie like state since around the developmentally critical age of 13. This state coincides with the intellectually lower requirement for entertainment of seeing makeup laden people awkwardly moving about. Once called, appropriately, slapstick now is called dark comedy. This movie is postured as good parody; well parody requires something of substance to parody – vacuous fluff can’t be parodied.
Or, put another way, same old retreads – no new story (actually no story whatsoever), nothing creative, poor acting (didn’t require much anyway and Harrelson peaked in the Bball movie and has been fouling out since then. This one requires a technical.), cheap sets (except for borrowing someone’s Hollywood home for a few shots). OK, I relent there was, admittedly, slightly better makeup on the Zs (but as “Shaun of the Dead” would say: ****-a-doodle-doo, that’s momentous).

Too graphic and gross for me! I LOVED Shaun of the Dead…but with this movie I spent at least half the time hiding my eyes!

and boring. The first five minutes are inventive and contain most of the laughs you’ll experience thru the whole movie. An interesting cameo and a couple of jokes are all you’ll get if you stay. What a waste. Bummer.

Honestly, I would rate this movie a 1 star, if it weren’t for the great cast they got for this movie. I also love the feel of ANY zombie movie, so the luster of a zombie movie gives it 2 stars alone. Past that, this movie to me was very sour, boring, and honestly I didn’t feel the need to actually laugh out loud. So I agree with what a lot of the lower reviews are saying, and I believe it is true from our point of view. I loved Dead-Alive, and I also really like Shaun of the Dead. I thought it was just SO cheesy, and had something missing that really could have kept this movie going.
I guess a sense of humor is only good for each person, and I think a lot of people will feel kind of lost when it comes to story. There is virtually none at all. Few people left in the world, Kill zombies, Drive, Rinse, Repeat. They want to go for a ride on some rides in an amusement park and get stuck. It’s up to their friend to save them at the last second from the bloodthirsty zombies. It is very Cliche, and like most other 2 star reviews said, boring and it has been done before. Now this movie did had some funny jokes in the beginning like others have said, very few scattered throughout the rest of the movie. The editing was very well done, and the CGI I can say was decent too. It has that “goofy zombie” feel to the way they made it, and I think they hit it right on the dot of what they were going for. Now if there was just SOME storyline….
Overall after my theater experience I don’t understand where the “luster” for this movie comes from. I like woody, and I like zombies. I freaking LOVE horror movies, and comedy movies, but this mash up just didn’t sit well with me and I think maybe this review will be helpful to some people out there that are pondering on buying this or renting it. I would suggest a rent first, then buy if this movie is for you for sure.

It’s the classic red line of most movies: starts of good and then lands flat. I was bored as hell after 20 minutes and never really cared what happened after that. Maybe because nothing happened.
The end scenes at the amusement park was just so silly and felt like something out of a budget teenage tv-series. The zombies weren’t cool and no one was ever chased in that thrilling sort of way which makes your pulse go up, like in the superb movie Dawn of the Dead. I liked the actors but the story and the drama was just a big sleeping pill..
