which will combine live-action and CGI is targeted for release in 2009.

Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins and Michael Pena will star in The Return,
which Neil Burger (The Illusionist) will direct. Lionsgate will
distribute and is eyeing a December release. Filming starts in May.
Burger co-wrote the screenplay with Dirk Wittenborn. The story follows
three soldiers returning from Iraq who become companions on an
unexpected road trip across the U.S. Bill Block, whose QED Intl. is
financially backing the project, will executive produce with Paul
Hanson and Adam Merims.
Ocean's Thirteen writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien are producing with Rick Schwartz (The Departed) and Burger.

Warner Bros. is developing a feature on the lives of Valerie Plame and Ambassador Joseph Wilson, the married couple drawn into a D.C. firestorm.
Plame's status as a CIA agent was revealed by White House officials allegedly out to discredit her husband after he wrote a 2003 New York Times op-ed piece saying that the Bush administration had manipulated intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq.
The film is a co-production between Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman and Jerry and Janet Zucker of Zucker Productions.
Jez and John Butterworth are writing the screenplay.

DreamWorks has optioned the action-comedy spec The Secret Lives of Road Crews by Kevin Lund and T.J. Scott, with Hal Lieberman producing. The story revolves around a clandestine group of road crew workers who are the last line of defense against a subterranean alien race.
Lund and Scott recently sold an untitled action pitch to New Line Cinema, with Temple Hill Entertainment's Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen producing and Channing Tatum attached to star.
They previously set up Vivaldi at Columbia Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.

Michelle Monaghan has signed on to star opposite Patrick Dempsey in Columbia Pictures' romantic comedy Made of Honor. Paul Weiland will direct from a screenplay by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont based on an original script by Adam Sztykiel.
The story chronicles the relationship between Tom (Dempsey) and Claire (Monaghan), who have been platonic friends for 10 years. He's a serial dater, while she wants marriage but hasn't found Mr. Right. Just as Tom is starting to think that he's relationship material after all, Claire gets engaged. When she asks Tom to be her "maid" of honor, he reluctantly agrees -- only so he can attempt to stop the wedding and woo her before it's too late.
Shooting is scheduled to start in April.

Oscar winner William Monahan is reteaming with The Departed players Leonardo DiCaprio and Vertigo Entertainment for another Hong Kong remake, a thriller titled Confessions of Pain for Warner Bros. Pictures, which acquired the rights to the film.

Universal Pictures will shoot Matt Damon threequel The Bourne Ultimatum next month in New York:
Lauri Pitkus, a Universal project director, said that the movie will take over parts of South and Dover Sts. and Peck Slip to film a car chase scene from March 17-18, St. Patrick's Day weekend. The film crew will be on location from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, Pitkus said, and will set up the night before.

After one of the busiest Presidents' Day weekends at the box office ever, things settled down despite the release of five new movies in wide release. Even so, Sony's Ghost Rider, starring Nicolas Cage, was able to hold its place as the #1 movie at the box office for a second weekend with $19.7 million, despite taking a hard plunge from its record-setting opening. In ten days, it has grossed $78.6 million.

Ellen DeGeneres hosted the 79th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night where the big winner with 4 Oscars was Martin Scorsese's The Departed, which won for Picture and Director, Scorsese's first Oscars in either category after being nominated 5 previous times. The Departed also took the Oscar for Editing and for its Adapted Screenplay by William Monahan.

Brittany Snow (John Tucker Must Die) will play the lead in Screen Gems slasher pic Prom Night. Nelson McCormick is directing and Original Film's Neal Moritz is producing.
The film is a remake of the 1980 original that starred Jamie Lee Curtis as one of a group of teen girls stalked by a masked killer. The studio is eyeing a February 1, 2008 release.
