New Line Waits Until 'The Thirteenth Hour'
Posted on Sep 10 2008 4:18 AM by Aziz

I am getting a terrible sense of deja vu -- I skimmed this Variety article very quickly, thinking as I read "Oh, I remember reading the reviews of this book, and I always meant to pick it up." But then I saw the word "preemptively" and realized it hadn't been published yet.

After Dark Seeks Horror 'From Within'
Posted on Sep 05 2008 4:54 AM by Aziz

When the After Dark Horrorfest popped up in November of 2006, I caught about half of the offered 8 Films to Die For, despite a transparently sensationalized campaign of just how horrendously extreme these titles must've been to get such a specialized release.

After the unpleasantness that was You, Me and Dupree, Anthony and Joe Russo are looking to explore a different kind of darkness -- the gritty and corrupt city of Ciudad del Este. According to Variety, they're set to direct Ciudad, which will be based on a graphic novel they're writing for Oni Press.

For quite some time, the supernatural thriller Passengers -- starring Anne Hathaway as a grief counselor working with survivors of a plane crash (among them, Patrick Wilson) who begin to vanish -- had been quietly set on opening this Friday, September 5th.

Here are some news bites for our long weekend:

Ashley Greene has had a whirlwind of press lately, once she signed on to play Alice Cullen in Twilight. Now The Hollywood Reporter posts that she's signed onto an indie thriller called Summer. In it, she'll get another horror-themed family, but much less sexy than well-coifed,

I know what you're thinking -- "Well, that's just silly. Why would I want to watch the opening credits of a film?" Well, because these opening credits were designed by Danny Yount. I'm willing to bet you've watched and marveled over his work before.

Woody Harrelson Joins Emmerich's '2012'
Posted on Jul 16 2008 6:24 AM by Aziz

At this point I'm starting to think that Roland Emmerich must be in possession of some pretty serious blackmail material, because there is no other explanation why accomplished actors are so ready and willing to star in his films. MTV now reports that Woody Harrelson has joined the cast of Emmerich's end of the world thriller, 2012.

Sam Shepard and Rosanna Arquette Are On the 'Run'
Posted on Jul 10 2008 6:21 AM by Aziz

Bit by bit, the cast is falling into place. In March, Dermot Mulroney signed on to star in Run For Her Life -- the story of a father whose daughter needs a lung transplant. Since the young girl is low on the US list, he heads to Mexico to pay his way onto their list -- only to find out that they're killing thousands of kids for their organs. In June, Diane Kruger signed on to play his wife.

Bertino Goes Rogue for Two More Pictures
Posted on Jul 10 2008 6:19 AM by Aziz

Considering that Rogue Pictures was content with bumping back writer-director Bryan Bertino's feature debut, The Strangers, countless times, only for it to turn around and gross a commendable $52 million, it seems appropriate that the studio throws the man a bone with a two-picture deal and seven figures for each.

First Images: Matt Damon's 'The Green Zone'
Posted on Jul 07 2008 11:12 AM by Aziz

While the film lover in me might be happy to see Matt Damon branching out with roles that don't trade on his looks, the red-blooded girl in me is happy to see Damon back in fighting form. Empire has the first still from the Iraq drama, The Green Zone, and he's back to the Matt Damon that we all know and love.

John Madden Zeroes In On 'The Debt'

Back in May, Miramax grabbed a spec for the remake of an Israeli thriller called The Debt. Matthew Vaughn, director of Layer Cake, wrote the adaptation along with writing partner Jane Goldman. But he wasn't interested in directing it himself, for whatever reason.

And we thought that the shrinking gap was only between theatrical and DVD releases. Now it's how soon a project can get off the ground after someone passes away.

New 'Blindness' Trailer Online
Posted on Jul 04 2008 6:14 AM by Aziz

Of all the films I'm looking forward to this fall, Blindness ranks fairly high up there. Canadian distributor Alliance has just made available a full trailer that proves to be fairly intriguing, as an optometrist (Mark Ruffalo) and his seemingly immune wife (Julianne Moore) cope with an inexplicable epidemic of sight loss.

Trailer for 'The Day The Earth Went Whoa'

The rule of thumb in this film blogging world of ours is, what goes up must come down. In other words, any trailer that finds itself premiering on YouTube can only find itself taken down from YouTube.
