Posted on Apr 29 2008 3:31 AM by adnana

This is neat - Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann, the original kid stars of Disney's 1970s "Witch Mountain" movies, are coming back for "Race to Witch Mountain," says The Hollywood Reporter.

In a nod to the original movies, Eisenmann plays a sheriff and Richards plays a waitress at a roadhouse called Ray's in a town called Stony Creek. They help a cabbie (Dwayne Johnson) and his two paranormal-powered passengers (AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig).

Neil Marshall has signed with Universal to direct "Drive"
Posted on Mar 20 2008 4:59 AM by adnana

Neil Marshall has signed with Universal to direct "Drive," an adaptation of the James Sallis novel. Hugh Jackman is attached to play a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway car driver in heists.
Hossein Amini wrote the script, and Marc Platt is producing with Jackman and his Seed Prods. partner John Palermo.

"Drive" marks Marshall's first big studio job for a non-genre picture, and Universal hopes to make it this summer. Scheduling will determine whether Jackman gets behind the wheel for the L.A. set action thriller.

In the book, the stuntman's already-exciting existence gets jolted when he discovers that a contract has been put out on his life.

Warner Bros. pick up BONE
Posted on Mar 08 2008 12:13 PM by adnana

I’ve never read Bone, but it consistently ranks among comic readers as one of the best traded series out there, and since it’s debut in the graphic novel form in 2005 (the series ran monthly between 1994 and 2004) it has sold over 1 million copies and is claimed to be the longest running self-published Independent comic series in history.

Written by Jeff Smith, the ten time Eisner Award winning comic was pretty much inevitable as potential film fodder. During the late 90’s, Nickelodeon Films attempted to transform the series but Smith nipped it in the bud when a children’s adaptation featuring songs by artists such as Britney Spears and N Sync was revealed as their true intent.

Now Warner Brothers, the studio who seem the most aggressive in picking up graphic novels these days have picked up the rights.

Niall Matter Is Watchmen's Mothman
Posted on Mar 02 2008 9:50 AM by adnana

Now that Zak Snyder has wrapped up filming for Watchmen, expect more of the smaller, unconfirmed roles to begin getting verification, beginning with this one. Niall Matter (The Best Years, Eureka, Stargate Atlantis) has told Watchmen Comic Movie that he plays the role of Mothman in the upcoming comic adaptation.

In the comics, Mothman is one of the original "Minutemen," a group of heroes who fought crime in the 1930s and '40s. The Minutement served as the inspiration for the later team of the Watchmen. Mothman, aka Byron Lewis, isn't seen much in the graphic novel, and is best known for being the former superhero whose career took a toll on his mind, drove him to become an alcoholic and led him into a sanitarium.

Watchmen, based on the award winning graphic novel by Alan Moore, is set in an alternate 1985 America where costumed heroes are a part of the world's history, and the "Doomsday Clock", which measures the tension between the USA and the U.S.S.R. is constantly at five minutes to midnight. Rorschach, a vigilante who refused to retire when his teammates did, is drawn out by the murder of one of his colleagues, and pulled into a world-wide conspiracy with terrifying implications for the future of mankind.

Columbia and Moritz Adapting "The Boys"
Posted on Feb 21 2008 5:34 AM by adnana

Columbia Pictures has acquired the rights to indie comic book "The Boys" and will develop a feature adaptation along with producer Neal H. Moritz and his Sony-based Original Film, says Variety.

Created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the contemporary-set comic book series follows a CIA squad, known informally as "the boys," whose job is to keep watch on the proliferation of superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or eliminate them.

Moritz characterized the series as an original take on the superhero genre. "Rather than begin with a romantic idea of superheroes out to save the world, 'The Boys' imagines a world in which superheroes really exist, with all of the flaws that real people have," he said. "The boys are there to make sure that people with superhuman powers don't get out of line."

David Fincher to Direct Graphic Novel Adaptation Black Hole
Posted on Feb 21 2008 5:30 AM by adnana

“David Fincher tackling STDs, not like herpes, worse,” is the imagined, beaded brow pitch to the studio. It worked. The director of the Oscar-shunned modern masterpiece Zodiac, as well as Fight Club, is attached to direct a film based on the comics-turned-acclaimed graphic novel, Black Hole, by Charles Burns. Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing the project, but like DiCaprio’s Akira, no official word if Pitt is involved to star. Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman were set to adapt the screenplay in 2006, but no word if Fincher is doing his own thing here.

Set in the ’70s, Black Hole is a 12-issue comic that followed teenagers who spread “the Bug,” a fictional, incurable STD that causes the sexually-active to develop horrific physical deformities, as well as those who didn’t catch it but reacted to the plague.
